Does your house need a little pick-me-up? The simplest way you can give it an updated look is to change the wallpaper. This might sound like a difficult chore, but it doesn’t have to be. It’s easy to add a pop of pretty pattern to any corner of your home with press-on on wallpaper, says design pro Jessica Welling. Here’s how to do it on a dime!
Add bright accents to the wall.
“Peel-and-stick wallpaper is a fun way to bring color and style to any space,” says Welling. And it doesn’t require the commitment of wallpaper. Here, a striped wall brings a room to life.
To do: Measure the wall and gather the amount of paper needed, then simply peel the backing from the paper and stick it on, smoothing and cutting as needed.
Tip: Patterned paper makes a big impact and acts like art, so Welling suggests keeping wall art minimal.
Create a gorgeous floral container.
Covering a glass container (like a rectangular one) with a band of patterned stick-on wallpaper turns it into an eye-catching vase for any table — in no time! To do this yourself, first snip a piece of patterned stick-on wallpaper to fit all around your container. Then peel and stick the wallpaper onto the vase, pressing down to smooth out any ripples or air bubbles. To finish, fill the glass halfway with water, snip about a dozen blooms (like supermarket roses) to fit inside, and insert the flowers.
Revitalize your dresser.
An old dresser goes from simple to striking, thanks to a stylish wallpaper refresh. To re-create, remove the knobs from a dresser and rub a piece of fine-grit sandpaper on the front of the drawers to strip off any sheen. Snip pieces of cut-to-fit stick-on wallpaper for each drawer. Peel and press the paper on each drawer. For extra flair, add new knobs, like these Gold Crystal Knobs (Buy from Amazon, $17.99 for 25).
Style up a chic catch-all box.
All it takes to refashion a pile of basic boxes into chic storage containers is a few sheets of printed press-on wallpaper. The finished product is ideal for concealing household clutter — and it’s cute enough to display!
To do: For each, snip cut-to-fit pieces of patterned stick-on wallpaper for each side of the box. Peel and press the paper on each side, smoothing paper down to prevent any air bubbles from forming. Repeat the process for the box top.
Create a sunny windowsill garden.
“A windowsill herb garden brightens gray days,” says Welling. “And it’s convenient to have fresh herbs always at the ready!” To make each planter, snip four pieces of floral-patterned stick-on paper to fit each side of a plain dollar-store planter. Peel and press the paper on each side. Then, add an ID by pressing on a craft-store chalkboard label. Use a white paint pen to jot herb names on the labels. Finally, pop the plastic herb pots into the papered planters. (Remove the herb pots when you need to water the plants.)
